Clothing: layers and natural fabrics
The desert surprises with hot days and cold nights. Bring cotton or linen clothing that breathes well and protects from the sun. Avoid synthetic fabrics that retain heat.
- Long-sleeved T-shirts (3-4 units): they protect from the sun and wind.
- Light trousers (2 pairs): long ones are best to protect your legs from the hot sand and insects.
- Scarf or shemagh: essential for covering your nose and mouth when the wind blows.
- Jumper or fleece: nights at the camp can drop below 10 °C, even in summer.
- Light raincoat: it rains little, but a sandstorm can catch you off guard.
Footwear: comfort first
Sandals are fine for the camp, but for the camel ride and for exploring the dunes you need something sturdier.
- Trekking or hiking shoes: thick sole, high ankle to stop sand getting in.
- Comfortable sandals: to relax at the camp and walk on loose sand.
- Thick socks: they protect your feet from friction during the camel ride.
Sun protection and health
The Sahara sun is intense. Protect yourself well to avoid sunburn and dehydration.
- SPF 50+ sunscreen: reapply every 2 hours.
- Sunglasses with UV protection: preferably with polarised lenses.
- Hat or cap with a wide brim: protects neck and ears.
- Insect repellent: although there aren't many mosquitoes, midges can appear at sunset.
- Basic first-aid kit: painkillers, anti-diarrhoea medicine, plasters and any personal medication.
Electronics and accessories
- External battery (power bank): the luxury camp has electricity, but it doesn't hurt to bring one.
- Camera or phone with a good camera: the dunes at sunrise deserve quality photos.
- Head torch: useful for moving around the camp at night.
- Plug adapter: Morocco uses type C and E sockets.
Toiletries
- Biodegradable wet wipes: water is a precious commodity in the desert.
- Dry shampoo: handy between showers.
- SPF lip balm: lips crack quickly in the dry wind.
- Reusable water bottle: the guide always carries water, but having your own is handy.

Travel light. You don't need much to enjoy the desert. The less luggage, the more freedom you'll have to move around and enjoy it.

Check the forecast. In winter the nights are really cold; in summer the daytime heat is extreme. Adjust your packing to the season.
